One question comes up often: if there are no ads and no required subscription, who pays the bills? This post answers with what is actually in the product today, no promises.

What exactly is free

Everything you need to learn:

  • the whole path, from addition and mental math to differential and integral calculus;
  • the step-by-step solution to every question;
  • the Practice tab, with review of what is fading;
  • the league, the streak and your stats.

There is no trial that runs out and no lesson locked behind a payment. Supporting does not unlock any exclusive content: supporters and non-supporters study exactly the same path.

Why there are no ads

Ads compete for attention, and attention is exactly what a math lesson needs. A flashing banner in the middle of an equation breaks your reasoning, and a mandatory video between questions breaks the rhythm of practice. On top of that, advertising usually depends on tracking the people who study. We prefer to sell no ad space at all and to sell nobody’s data.

Where the money goes

Keeping a study platform online has ongoing costs, even when nobody pays to use it:

  • Servers and database, which store each learner’s path, streak and history.
  • AI, used for example to explain a step of the solution when you ask.
  • New content: new units, from mental math to real analysis, with reviewed solutions.

How support works

There are two ways, both voluntary:

  1. One-time support: a single contribution, in whatever amount makes sense to you.
  2. Monthly support: a recurring contribution that makes the project more predictable and can be canceled whenever you want.

Payment happens in a secure checkout outside Math Mental, and the receipt arrives by email. The invitation to support shows up at moments of achievement, such as seven days of study in a row or a completed unit, and can be dismissed with one tap.

The supporter badge

Supporters get a rosette-shaped badge as a thank-you:

  • lilac rosette for a one-time contribution;
  • gold rosette for an active monthly contribution.

The badge appears next to your name in the league and in the path leaderboard, and your account shows since when you have been a supporter. It gives no advantage in the league and earns no XP or gems: it is just a visible way of saying thank you.

What about the optional extras?

A few things can be bought, such as refilling your hearts right away instead of waiting for them to come back. None of it unlocks content: hearts also come back over time, and each session in the Practice tab restores one heart. You can study the whole path without spending anything.

A commitment

All lessons stay open. If the way the project is funded ever changes, the change will be announced here on the blog and in the app’s What’s new tab before it happens.

Frequently asked questions

Is Math Mental really free?

Yes. All lessons, solutions and reviews are open, with no paid plan, no trial period and no ads.

Does supporting unlock any lesson or advantage?

No. Supporters study the same path as everyone else. The only effect is the thank-you badge next to their name.

What is the difference between the lilac and the gold rosette?

Lilac is for a one-time contribution; gold is for an active monthly contribution.

Can I cancel monthly support?

Yes, whenever you want. The content stays the same after you cancel.
