70% chance of rain: what it means and how to compute it
A “70% chance of rain” means that, on days with conditions like the forecast ones, measurable rain falls at that location on about 70 out of 100. The chance of staying dry is the complement: 100% − 70% = 30%. To get the chance of rain on at least one of several days, compute the chance that no day gets rain and subtract it from 1; this assumes the days are independent, which is rarely true in real weather. The temperature range is the maximum minus the minimum, and the mean is the sum of the readings divided by how many there are.
